The article says "Frustrated with the slow pace of economic reform in Greece, Germany is demanding Athens cede control over its budget decisions to Europe as a condition of disbursing the next tranche of international aid for the beleaguered country... Should such a regime be enacted, it would mark an unprecedented intervention of European Union powers over a member state, largely undermining Greece's national sovereignty..."

So the Germans are slowly waking up, but it's still not enough. The Greek crisis is not just a government debt crisis, it is also a crisis of working practices, refusal to punish tax evasion, incompetent expensive government bureaucracy, too much health and pension spending and not enough investment, too many liberal artists and not enough scientists and engineers, etc, etc. All these things must be urgently addressed in order to stop Greece imploding. Since Greek democracy is totally corrupt, by far the most corrupt and incompetent democracy in Europe, and patently incapable of addressing these many problems itself, if Greece is to saved it must be put under technocratic management with its parliament suspended and foreign experts completely in charge. In other words, to save Greece some wise uncorrupted external power needs to take control over not just budget, but also over all other aspects of the economy, at least until some degree of professionalism has been restored. If Germany stops at control of the budget, Greece will clearly end up in food stamps and riots.

As I said many years ago in my first article about Greece, this crisis has always been destined to end in either Greece temporarily seceding sovereignty or Greece leaving Europe, and by constantly refusing to face this choice the Germans are killing both the people of Greece and Europe. Until the Germans can move past their WW2 guilt and start acting rationally the European crisis is never ending. Elite Western newspapers refuse to even discuss this topic, but it's absolutely critical. As soon as the Germans have the courage and strength to embrace "justice" Europe will be saved. Why will Europe not just Greece be saved? Because all the Germans have to do is bring in some Singapore / Chinese experts and they can turn round Greece in no time with state owned enterprise and nationalization, and their example will transform the reputation of the EU and enabled the transition to technocracy. Greece is both the ideal platform for demonstrating the benefits of relinquishing national sovereignty and the professionalism of the EU, and the ideal platform for experimenting radical new economic models. How did Deng save China? By experimenting with new policy ideas in limited areas, likewise Greece is the perfect special economic zone for exploring new European policy.  

God help us the way to save Greece has been obvious for years, yet the German elite go on constantly killing the hapless masses for the sake of their bohemian moral conscience. I have news for you Germany, killing people because you feel bad about something you did sixty years ago does not make you a good man, it makes you an ignorant coward without self knowledge. What is good is wisdom not ignorance. Think about how to save yourself, or think about how to save Greece, both problems converge on one solution- to suspend Greek democracy and start fixing the country.
